Clinical Study of Cesarean Section


Abstract
Nowdays, cesarean section continuse to be one of the most important operations performed in obstetrics and gynecology.
This study was carried out retrospectively based on the clinical chart of 368 mothers who had delivered by cesarian section out of obstetrics and gyneocology, Seoul Red Cross Hospital.
@ES The result were as follows:
@EN 1) There was 1133 deliveries including 368 cases of cesarian sectoins, giving an average cesarian section rate was 32.4%. The primary section rate was 18.4% and repeat cesarian section rate was 14.0%.
2) In age distribution of 48.8% of total cases were between 26~30 year-old group, 32.0% between 31~35 year-old group.
3) In distribution by gestational weeks, the greatest portion(95.6%) of the case swas done between 38~42 gestational weeks group.
4) the incidenc for primary cesarean sectoin were cephalopelvic disproportion(23.1%) breech presentation(37%) persistent occiput posterior position(4.9%) and miscellaneous.
5) in the type of operation, lower segment transverse incision was done most frequently (97.8%), classical cesarean section was done only in 6 cases(1.6%).
6) in the combined operation performed during cesarean section, tubal sterilization was done most frequently and next was incidental appendectomy (2.4%), myomectomy91.1%), adnexal operation(1.1%) and etc.
7) In blood loss during cesarean section, 97.3% of the cases belonged to 999 ml or less blood loss group and the next 1.9% to 1000~1499ml blood loss group.
8) in type of anesthesia, general anesthesia was performed in 99.2% and epidural anesthesia in 3 cases(0.8%).
9) The rate of maternal morbidity was 8.6% of cases, out of which endometritis was (2.9%), wound infection(1.9%), urinary tract infection(1.1%) and puerperal fever(1.1%) in rate, and there was no maternal death.
10) In the distribution of birth weight of infants, the group of 3000~3499gm was the most common(42.8%).
11) Perinatal mortality was 2.7% and the most common cause of neonatal death was prematurity associated with preterm delivery.
